it was the
SUMMER
OF '65
In a backyard on Bainbridge Island - just a short ferry ride from Seattle, Washington, three friends, Congressman Joel Pritchard, William Bell and Barney McCallum, returned home after playing golf to find their families bored, restless and eager for something to do. Using an old badminton court, some ping pong paddles and a plastic ball, they set out to create a game the families could enjoy together.
As the summer went on, changes were made, rules evolved and kids, adults, neighbors and friends fell in love with this new game they call Pickleball.
Today
Smash Park has recreated those same backyard summer vibes of '65. When Pickleball was new friends and family gathered to play, laugh and have fun together. So whether you're looking for a place to connect with others, play a competitive game or just unwind...everyone can find a happy place at Smash Park.
