Tank-“Home”
Mike Johnston is the artistic evangelist behind the TRUTH street art movement bringing a message of joy to the masses. His major influences have been travel, comic books, Jesus Cristo, and of course, street art. Johnston traveled Europe, Asia, and the Middle East for many years finding creative inspiration before settling in Austin, where he became known for painting portraits of pop culture icons throughout the city. His work catches the attention of passersby with his bright, graphic, and illustrative style painted on found objects and giant concrete walls.
The inspiration behind his Dreamland work “Home” was migratory creatures. The whale’s journey acts as a metaphor mirroring the voyage that many immigrants make to America for their shot at the American Dream.
